” My grandparent’s home is about 50 years old and I have vivid memories of staying over a lot in the house when I was younger.
I clearly recall the house being very cold, with draughts everywhere and you could hear the wind howling through the front door.
There was mould and condensation on the windows and a smell of dampness in the house.
So considering the real lack of comfort not to mention energy-efficient, we had a real motivation for doing the Home Energy Upgrades.
We got in touch with Insulex and we were advised about what energy upgrades would be required to optimise the house for comfort and energy efficiency. As well as that we were advised about the One Stop Shop grant and what was required in order to qualify for this particular grant.
Given the number of energy upgrades we were considering, the ‘One Stop Shop’ route was ideal for us.
Our priority was to live in a warm home, and we also wanted to save on energy bills and get a high level of comfort, which had been lacking for as long as the house existed.
Additionally, the fact that we could access a substantial SEAI grant to help with the cost of the home energy upgrades was definitely a deciding factor.

The House is Now A3 rated
The One Stop Shop service offered by Insulex met all our expectations in terms of the advice given, the overall experience, the workmanship, and the products used. The end result exceeded our expectations as the house ended up with a BER rating of A3.
What are the most noticeable improvements since upgrading the house?
One of the most considerable improvements we have noticed since getting the house done is the comfort, it is just so comfortable and warm now and a pleasure to live in.
We have also noticed the new energy efficient windows are of superior quality and as a result have given us a great sound barrier.
A definite stand-out moment for us was when we got our first electricity bill, it was a pleasant surprise!
Considering we had been through a cold spell, and the air-to-water heat pump had been running constantly during the cold weather, we were very pleasantly surprised as to how cost-effective and energy-efficient the house is now and it is great that we have just the one bill for the entire running of the house.
We are absolutely delighted with the house. The external insulation has completely revamped the appearance and made the house look like a brand new home, the quality of work and efficiency of the service is excellent
